ON STAGE! LIGHTS AND COLORS IN CARAMBA’S COSTUMES

April 7 – September 4, 2022

The exhibition highlights the very high level of production of the costume designer of the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan, Luigi Sapelli, aka Caramba (Pinerolo, 1865 – Milan, 1936), through about forty costumes, chosen from over three thousand belonging to the Devalle collection in Turin.

Caramba devoted all his creative energies in order to modernize the concept of costume for the show, working from 1922 to 1936, the year of his death, at the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan alongside the master Arturo Toscanini.

The exhibition represents a journey through precious fabrics and precious embroideries that express the absolute excellence of the workers that Caramba gathered under his direction, creating not only costumes for theater, opera and cinema, but also wonderful dresses for the brilliant private life of the divas and for the fashionable ladies all over Europe.
